brooks

Growing up in the Foothills of California, Brooks was drawn to the backcountry at an early age. Hunting and fishing throughout most of the Western States is his passion. Having taken many big game trophy’s of his own, he really enjoys helping others in their quest of fulfilling their outdoor adventure. Even though Mule Deer, Elk, and Antelope are very high on his list of favorite big game to hunt; and of course his love of waterfowl hunting, Desert Bighorn Sheep hunting has become his passion.

Brooks has been a member of Dry Creek Outfitters for many years and is a key asset to our team.

cliff ourcrewCliff is a seasoned sheep hunter with numerous trophies to his credit. He is a third generation outdoorsman, learning his hunting and tracking skills from the best…..his dad and his grandfather. He has hunted big game in most of the western states with both a rifle and a bow. Cliff likes to say that hunting is not a hobby for him, but it's who he is, and he takes it very serious.

He worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Northern California as well as the California Department of Fish and Game as a biologist in the backcountry of the Sierras. He has paramedic training which includes training in First Aid and CPR. Cliff is also a skilled gunsmith.

carlos ourcrew

I grew up in the Mojave Desert, and was fortunate to have my life unfolded in such a way that I have spent an enormous amount of time out in the field. Aside from family one of my major interests has been the desert bighorn sheep. I have pursued a traditional view of them and the habitat they live in. In this pursuit I have learned about many things; petroglyphs, archaeology, botany geology, and so on. For a number of years I had my own guiding service that specialized in desert bighorn sheep. Through these many years I've either known of, or been a part of Dry Creek Outfitters, and I know them to be a top-notch world-class outfitter. To get to know me better you can go to my website thewayofthings.org or my Facebook site by the same name.

jacob ourcrewHunting started at an early age for Jake following his father in pursuit of deer from the Sierra Nevada mountains to the coastal ranges of California. Being in the outdoors quickly became an obsession for him and has lead to many hunts across the western US. Desert sheep quickly became a passion that has consumed him in pursuit of big game. Jake works as an underground utility contractor and is CPR and First Aid certified.

clay devalle 2020

Hunting for Clay has been a big part of his life from childhood to present. Over 30 years working as a Lineman has given him the opportunity to pursue that passion. Covering many western states, as well as Alaska and British Colombia. If he wasn’t sharing the outdoors with family, it was with friends and many first time hunters. He gets as much or more enjoyment out of being in the field with dedicated and consciences hunters than he does even with a tag in his own pocket. He has been First Aid and CPR certified for over 30 years.

Tim Mercier PhotoTim learned about hunting, fishing and the outdoors from his Dad and Granddad. He has been enjoying the backcountry since he was old enough to walk and hunting since he was old enough to safely carry a gun. For well over 30 years Tim has been packing horses and mules and outfitting big game hunts of one kind or another. In 1995 Tim was fortunate enough to be able to dedicate most of his efforts toward hunting Desert Bighorn Sheep. For the past 40 years he has lived in the Mojave Desert of Southern California, in the heart of Nelson Desert Bighorn Sheep Country.

Hunting and guiding is his passion and his livelihood and he spends the entire year scouting, guiding or hunting. Having served for 12 years as Commander of his local Sheriff's Search and Rescue Posse, he has been trained in tracking, desert survival, map and compass, GPS, and CPR (he can really get you lost). During his career he has had the opportunity to guide and assist hunters of all different levels of experience, from all over the country. He is a member of the NRA, Wild Sheep Foundation, Grand Slam Club, Society for the Conservation of Bighorn Sheep, Safari Club International, Rocky Mt. Elk Foundation and Christian Sportsmen's Fellowship.

clay ourcrewClay is a third generation hunter, born and raised in the heart of "Desert Sheep Country" with extensive time spent in the backcountry and countless hours behind his optics. jason ourcrew

After meeting Jason you will see why it didn’t take Dry Creek Outfitters long to realize that he would be a great member of our team.

Jason’s day job is working for the California Highway Patrol and has been employed with the State for over 15 years. He spent many years patrolling a section of highway in the Mojave Desert that is dead smack in the center of some of the finest desert sheep country in California.

Jason comes from a strong background of love for the outdoors and hunting. Since he was old enough to pack around his first BB gun, he and his brother, father and grandpa would be out in the field. Jason received his hunter’s safety at age nine and didn’t waste any time in harvesting his first deer at age twelve with his bow. Jason has hunted many of the western states and Canada while harvesting many big game species along the way.

An excellent hunter, glasser and guide, Jason is someone everyone enjoys spending time in the field with. He is a humble, quiet, confident and experienced outdoorsman, as well as a trained and certified EMT.

shawn ourcrewA graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Wildlife Science and many years as a Field Biologist in the Mojave desert plus his passion for hunting and his love of the outdoors have helped make Shawn an excellent Desert Sheep Guide.  An extreme outdoorsman with excellent eyes, Shawn is an important member of our team.  A hard-core hunter that loves hunting sheep and is good at it.

Ben Mattausch 500Ben lives in Tucson, Arizona. Growing up in a family of hunters, Ben began hunting at an early age. The amount of time Ben has spent in the outdoors, his passion for hunting, his respect for wildlife, has made him the guide he is today. Ben is arguably one of the best sheep guides in the country. He has hunted Desert and Rocky Mountain Bighorn in the United States and Mexico. During the off season, Ben spends most of his time scouting and filming big game.

Just recently, Ben was recognized by the State of Arizona for achieving the “Heads and Horns” award and also the Arizona Big Game Award. The big game award is in recognition of harvesting all nine species of big game in Arizona.

Ben has been guiding with Dry Creek Outfitters for many years.

Tom Humphreville 500

Tom was born and raised in the Mojave Desert in the middle of sheep country.  He is a third generation hunter and an avid outdoorsman.  For many years he was a lead member in the sheriff’s department desert search and rescue unit.  Having been trained in desert survival, first aid, CPR, tracking and map and compass.  He grew up working on his family’s cattle ranch in the local desert mountains.  He volunteers a great deal of his time helping with the desert sheep watering projects.  Doing installations, repairs and monitoring of the some of the many big game guzzlers in the desert.  Tom knows a lot about this desert and the sheep that live in it.  He is a self-employed contractor and a dedicated family man.  We are honored to have him as a member of our team.

Kirk Stiltz 500Kirk Stiltz lives in Three Rivers California, his home town, and is retired from the National Park Service. Hunting is in his blood, a 5th generation descendent born and raised hunting, fishing, and trapping the mountains of the Sierra Nevada. Kirk has lived in and/or hunted many other western states and has extensive experience in wilderness country, hunting, fishing, backpacking, stock packing and mountaineering. Desert Bighorn Sheep hunting and scouting is his foremost affection. Kirk is an adept sheep hunter with inherent natural abilities at finding game. He can cover the miles in the roughest of sheep country and is committed to do what it takes for our clients to have a great experience with their hunt of a lifetime.

Nate Lang 500Nate Lang’s loves of the outdoors began at an early age. Hunting, fishing and backpacking were a passion handed down to him by his grandfather and father. Some of his greatest and earliest memories took place in the back country hunting bucks and fishing trout streams. Nate harnessed that passion for the outdoors, graduating with a degree in Wildlife Management at Humboldt State University, which led him to a career as a wildlife biologist for the USDA. Respect for wilderness and the creatures that live there are a family tradition and were ingrained at an early age. Hunting is a way of life for Nate and in the desert you will find him "glued to the glass", searching for that elusive ram.
